Mrs. Shirley Jones

Mrs. Shirley Ann Jones, of Bowdon, Georgia, passed away on July 17, 2026, at the age of 84. Mrs. Jones was born on August 12, 1941, in Bowdon, Georgia, to the late Hugh and Ora Mae Jones. A lifelong member of the Bowdon community, she devoted her life to her faith, her family, and caring for those around her. She was a loving and devoted wife to her husband, Marvin, and worked faithfully alongside him in their family business, Jones Automotive. Her steady support, hard work, and dedication played an important role in both their home and business throughout the years. Mrs. Jones was an active and faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church, where she taught children’s Sunday School for many years. She had a special love for children and took great joy in helping them learn about the Bible and grow in their faith. Her years of service to the church touched the lives of many children and families throughout the community. She enjoyed working in her garden, canning the vegetables she grew, and preparing delicious meals for the people she loved. She was especially well known for her cakes, which were always a favorite at family gatherings and church dinners. Those who knew her quickly learned to get a slice first, because her cakes never lasted long. Above all, Mrs. Jones cherished her family. She treasured the time spent with her children and grandchildren and found particular joy in her great-grandchildren. Her home was a place filled with love, good food, laughter, and many precious family memories. She will be remembered for her kind heart, strong faith, generous spirit, and the love she so freely shared with others. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Stanley Jones. She is survived by her husband, Marvin Jones; her daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Doug Stephens and Jennifer and Chris Messer; her grandchildren, Emmie and KC Geter, Jake Harrod, Anna and Nathan Teal, Andrew Messer, and Lila Harrod; and her great-granddaughter, Dally Geter. She is also survived by her step-grandchildren, Zack and Hannah Stephens, Savannah and Dale Thornhill, and Hannah Stephens; her step-great-grandchildren, Easton and Ellis Stephens and Everleigh Thornhill; and her sisters and their spouses, Sandra and Paul Cropsey and Shelby and Johnny Yates. The family will receive friends at Rainwater Funeral Home on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services for Mrs. Jones will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jamie Beam officiating. Pallbearers will be Jake Harrod, Andrew Messer, KC Geter, Nathan Teal, Zack Stephens, and Dale Thornhill. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Prior to the service on Sunday, Mrs. Jones will lie in state at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.
