Mr. Michael "Mike" Ray Wiggins

Five years ago, the anchor of our family was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, a devastating disease which destroys both the body and the mind. On Monday, August 31, 2026 at 9:50 pm Michael Ray Wiggins was healed. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Ray and Hazel (Baggett) Wiggins, his beautiful daughter Kelly Michelle, and an infant sister Linda Ann. Pop, Mike, Michael is survived by his wife of 41 years Mona (Masters) Wiggins, his son Pete (Amy) Wiggins, his son Josh Bishop, and granddaughters Sierra (Sam) Nelms, Skylar Bruce, and Spencer Pollard. His many blessings include his grands and greats: Monroe, Camden, Jasper, Sydney, Mason, Colton, Kingston, Cairo, and Creed. Mike was born on November 5,1948, at Jubal Watts Hospital in Bowdon, Georgia. He was named by the legendary Dr. Watts himself. Mike was a proud member of the 1966 State Championship Ranburne Bulldogs football team and a 1967 graduate of Ranburne High School. After high school, he attended Southern Union State Junior College and later graduated from West Georgia College with a BS degree in Business Administration. While attending college, Mike began the next phase of his life with Southwire. His first job was a steel strander operator at the Utility Plant. His impressive career with Southwire spanned 44 years—machine operator to Vice President. His many achievements include the vision and development of the Family Medical Center (early 90s) which was later renamed the Wiggins Family Medical Center. After Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast, Mike led the creation of Project Gift. Piling toys and emergency supplies in 18 wheelers, the Southwire crew headed to the coast to provide Christmas, food, and other supplies to those impacted. Project Gift and the Black Shirts remain a symbol of generosity and service. Perhaps his most treasured achievement at Southwire was the 12 For Life program and facility. Pioneered in 2007, 12 For Life was a collaborative, innovative, educational reform project between Southwire and the Carroll County School System, designed to provide opportunities for job and school success for students in Carroll County. It remains instrumental in improving the lives of students. In honor of all his efforts, Mike received the 2014 Carroll County Citizen of the Year Award. Even though his job was centered in Carroll County, Mike remained faithful to his hometown, his family and his church. He saw the need for more activities for kids and spearheaded the construction of ballfields and the Ranburne Recreation program; he served as city councilman, mayor, church leader and trustee. After his retirement in 2013, God placed a new calling on his life, Camp Lou. He shared the vision and dream of Mr. Louis Smission to make the property a place to honor God’s beautiful creation and teach kids about the love of Jesus. In typical Michael fashion, he took the calling very seriously and remained dedicated to the vision. Pop, Mike, Michael, lived his entire life with visions and dreams always rolling through his mind as he envisioned a better life for his family, church, and community. He loved the Great I AM and truly believed that God walked beside each and everyone of us. He is ”soaring on the wing of eagles today” with Glory and Praise in his heart. May the Lord Bless and keep you all. A memorial service honoring Mike’s life will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. (Georgia Time) at Ranburne First United Methodist Church. Bro. Dwayne Palmer and Bro. Kevin Johnson will officiate. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 p.m. (Georgia Time) until the service hour. Our family is so thankful for all the prayers, kindness and love shown to us during this trying season. Special thanks to Rick Foster, Brittany Elder, and the Amedisys Hospice Staff.
