Mr. Thomas Levis Smith

January 20, 1942 - November 22, 2017

Mr. Thomas L. Smith of Graham Alabama, was called to his home in glory on Wednesday, November 22, 2017. He was 75. Thomas was born on Tuesday, January 20, 1942, the second of three boys to be born to Oscar Smith and Flodie Mae Haynes Smith of Randolph County. He worked many years at public jobs including Southwire, Douglas & Lomason, Gold Kist store, and Robinson’s Salvage where he worked as a store clerk before he retired. The work he most enjoyed doing however, was working with horses as a farrier to many customers around our community. He also enjoyed and helped many young people who wanted to learn the trade of being a farrier and keeping their horses feet in good condition. His lifelong dream was to be a large animal veterinarian. He was a quiet man who loved the outdoors and he spent many nights out with friends who loved to go on night trips to hunt and listen to the dogs run. He was a wonderful father to two girls who gave him many grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he loved very much. Thomas was the kind of man who would help if you needed anything. He loved to garden and spent many summers planting and gathering vegetables and loved to share the bounty with his community. He was a member of Bethel East Baptist Church Woodland, AL where he loved to attend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his older brother Jimmy Smith and sister-in-law Frances Smith. He is survived by his brother Donnie (JoAnn) Smith. His wife of fifty-five years Joan Wysner Smith; his two daughters Suzanne (Harold) Horton, and Samantha (Gary) Dalrymple. His five grandchildren, Kyndal (Jim) McCollough, Loren (Justin) Mitchem, Gabriel Dalrymple, Courtney (Forrest) Henderson and Samuel Dalrymple. His eight beloved great grandchildren; Jimmy, Maraylee, Julie, Paisyn, Cade, Coleman, Conlee, and Brinleigh. He is survived by brother-in-law Dean (Angie) Wysner and many nieces and nephews. Our family would like to recognize the many caregivers and nurses from Alacare team, both from Home Health care and Hospice teams; Brandy Drummonds, Hermanda Bailey, Lacey Philips and the rest the Alacare family, along with many members of the Graham community who have helped our family along this journey. Thomas may be gone from our sight but he will never be forgotten. He has touched many along the way and now his work on earth has ended, but a new life has begun in Heaven. His legacy will live on through the lives of his family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday December 2, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. EST at Bethel East Baptist Church, Woodland AL. Bro. Darnell Teal, Bro. Jerry Wiggins, and Bro. Keith Runels. Music will be provided by church choir along with a few favorite songs. His body will lie-in-state at the church from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral hour. Pallbearers will be William Wright, Jody Smith, Gary Dalrymple, Mark Robinson, Roger Maddox, and Tanner Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Smith, Jimmy Noles, Bill Jordan, Ricky Souers, Samuel Dalrymple, and Jimmy McCollough. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and family at Rainwater’s Funeral Home on Friday evening December 1, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. EST to 8:00 p.m. EST
