Mrs. Jeanie Steed

April 29, 1928 - June 24, 2017

Charlie Jean Kidd Steed (Jeanie), 89, of The Oaks of Carrollton and formerly of Bowdon, died Saturday, June 24, 2017. Mrs. Steed was born in Heard County, Georgia on April 29, 1928, the daughter of the late Charlie Aubrey Kidd and Pauline Yarbrough Kidd. She grew up in Carrollton, Georgia, attending Carrollton City Schools, and graduated from Carrollton High School in 1945. She married Hal Irvin Steed on June 5, 1949, at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Mrs. Steed worked as the utilities clerk at the City of Bowdon Water Department until retirement and was a mother of four sons. She was a long-term active member of Bowdon Baptist Church. She was a member of the “Canasta Club” and the “Chat & Chase Club”. She was also a faithful member of WMU and the Bowdon Lions Club, serving a term as president. The family lived on 2nd Street in Bowdon. A lady of great compassion, she was always ready with a pound cake or teacakes whenever the need arose. Her attitude remained happy and her faith strong even while suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hal Steed; brother, Dorsey H. Kidd; and granddaughter, Amy Christina “Chrissy” Steed Caywood. Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-laws, Keith Irving Steed and Susan of Ila, Georgia; Charlie Aubrey Steed and Cathy of Carrollton; Alan Craig Steed and Dottie of Jacksonville, Florida; and John Wesley Steed and Denice of Graham, Alabama; eight grandchildren, Molly Steed Jones (Jason), Brandon Steed (Christine), Matthew Steed (Debra), Kyle Steed, Aaron Steed, Avery Steed, Teresa Costley (Brian), and Phillip Herbert (Carrie); and fourteen great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at The Oaks of Carrollton for their love, support, and assistance through the years. The family will receive friends at Rainwater Funeral Home Tuesday, June 27 from 4:00 till 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, June 28 at Bowdon Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Community Church Cemetery. Prior to the services, Mrs. Steed’s body will lie-in-state at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Carroll County Alzheimer’s Association, Inc., P.O. Box 1273, Carrollton, GA, 30112 or on line.
