Mr. Elmer Arthur, of Bowdon, Georgia, passed away on January 17, 2020. He was 94. Mr. Arthur was born on February 6, 1925 in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late William Grady and Chloe Arthur. He was a brick mason by trade and was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was also a member of Antioch Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy “Dot” Marlow Arthur; his brother, Carl Arthur; his sister, Linda Arthur Driver; and many other family members that were much loved. Survivors include his son, Ricky Arthur (Jan Nielson) of Carrollton, Georgia; his daughters, Nancy Lloyd (David) and Debbie Knowles (Mike), also of Bowdon; his sisters, Bonnie Jean Arthur Laney, of Bowdon, and Shirley McCarty, of Waco, Georgia; his brother, Olin Foster, of Lilburn, Georgia; his sisters-in-law, Ima Gentry, of Bowdon, and Edith Marlow, of Austell, Georgia; his grandchildren, Jason Knowles (Andrea), Connie Hannah (Neal), Kevin Knowles (Jessica), Keith Knowles (Kendra), Kraig Knowles (Shanda), Lori Holz (William), and Lance Arthur (Holly); and 17 and a half great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 20, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church. Rev. Milford Ballenger will officiate. Jason Knowles, Kevin Knowles, Keith Knowles, Kraig Knowles, William Holz, and Neal Hannah will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Prior to the services, Mr. Arthur’s body will lie-in-state at the church from 11:00 a.m. till the funeral hour. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, January 19, 2020 from 4:00 till 7:00 pm.
