Mrs. Gwendolyn Weir Williamson

Gwendolyn Weir Williamson, of Bowdon, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026. She was 88. Mrs. Williamson was born on October 23, 1937, in Carrollton, Georgia, to the late Foss and Dorothy Weir. She was a 1955 graduate of Bowdon High School and attended West Georgia College before transferring to Florida State University. During a quick trip home from college, she met the love of her life, Franklin Ray Williamson. The two soon married and began a life together, enjoying more than 56 years of marriage. Gwen helped her husband in the grocery business, working as a cashier when needed until they began their family and welcomed three children. Gwen had many hobbies throughout her life. She enjoyed playing tennis and canasta, and gardening was one of her favorite pastimes. She also loved traveling with family and friends. Later in life, she and Ray fulfilled a dream of visiting all 50 states and enjoyed several trips abroad. Above all, Gwen loved and cherished her family. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Ray Williamson, and her son, Brian Williamson. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Sonia Williamson; her daughter, Lynn Rooks (Rob); her son, Wesley Williamson; her grandchildren, Breanna Williamson Duncan (Jackson Tyler Duncan), Eric Williamson (Kelsey), Lindsey Rooks, and Trey Rooks (Taylor); and her great-grandchildren, Isla Duncan, Auden Duncan, Elaine Rooks, Lydia Rooks, Cali Rooks, and Bailey Rooks. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. at 2:00 p.m. at Rainwater Funeral Home. Brother Jimmy Holloway will officiate. Pallbearers will be Robert Rooks, Trey Rooks, Eric Williamson, Jackson Tyler "JT" Duncan, and Craig Walker. Interment will follow at Bowdon City Cemetery. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. till the service hour. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the hospice staff who helped care for Gwen. You were truly a Godsend. Special appreciation is extended to Courtney Acquaotta, RN; Chezney McBrayer, CNA; Joni Hughes, CNA; and Kayla White, MSW.
